South Gippsland Singers Inc
The South Gippsland Singers is a SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) choir who sing a wide range of music, from traditional choral to more popular tunes. Originating in 1981 as the Village Singers, the name was changed in 1995 to reflect the area that members were drawn from.
The singers rehearse at the Dakers Centre, Leongatha, from 7.30pm - 9.30pm on Wednesdays. We usually perform two concerts each year and have participated in Anzac Day and Remembrance Day Ceremonies as well as Carols in the Drome.
Our concerts, usually at the Dakers Centre, have included local vocal and instrumental soloists performing a bracket of their numbers as guest artists. Over the years, a wide variety of these guests have added an extra sparkle to our concerts.
In past years, we visited nursing homes and performed with other choirs, bands, school bands and orchestras locally and in other towns across Gippsland. Our conductor, Jen Holm, is keen to see more of this happening in the future.
We regularly donate money from our concerts. Donations have gone to Woorayl Lodge, Carinya Hostel, The Christmas Bowl Appeal, Samaritans Purse, SES and to help a choir member whose house burnt down, to mention just a few. New members are always welcome. We cater for all abilities, and, although no choir experience is necessary, a love of singing is a must!! The ability to read music is an advantage, however it’s not a requirement. Visitors are welcome to join us for a couple of rehearsals to try us out.
