GROW LIGHTLY – ON THE COUNCIL ENDING THE LEASE ON THEIR BUILDING
WHAT IS THIS ABOUT AND WHAT TO DO
Grow Lightly has been issued a warning that the lease on the building that they currently use at Coal Creek is to be terminated and that they are not allowed to use the building after June 30th 2024.
Grow Lightly believes that it appears that council staff have been instructed to issue this notice, in a move to limit the costs to the council for continued upkeep. There has been no indication what is to become of the empty building. Grow Lightly is convinced that the building is sound and if there are upkeep costs in the future then Grow Lightly can cover these.
Grow Lightly will be meeting with the council CEO to discuss this situation. Grow Lightly is seeking an extension on the lease to allow time for further discussions to work out a solution agreeable to both sides. The Grow Lightly Board wants to continue to use their building with its cool-room, kitchen, office spaces, storage areas, and ready access as well as its proximity to the monthly Farmers Market.
So Grow Lightly are calling on people to write to the council CEO and councillors with personal comments about the value of Grow Lightly and seeking a continuation of the lease arrangements that are currently in place. Please make sure that your letter is polite and positive. Grow Lightly is confident of a good outcome.
