Permits in Place for Korumburra Railway Precinct Redevelopment
The Korumburra Railway Precinct redevelopment project has achieved a significant milestone, with permits secured and the next stage of works set to commence.
South Gippsland Shire Council has been working closely with Heritage Victoria to progress the project with careful consideration of the heritage and archaeological values of the site. Some works have already been delivered or are underway, such as the car park works near Kelly’s Bakery, and renewal of the amenities block and shelter.
Other works, that can progress now that permits have been received, subject to conditions, include:
Construction of a new skate park.Removal of the remaining, disused, freight gate frame.Completion of the remaining car park and refurbishment of access road.Refurbishment of the pedestrian underpass.
Contracts for these works will be tendered in the coming weeks and details will be made available via Council’s website.
The concept plan for the precinct also includes landscaping, a new playground and half-court sports court, however these works are unable to be accommodated in the current project budget.
The Korumburra Precinct Redevelopment is being delivered alongside the Leongatha Railway Precinct Redevelopment. These two projects have been funded through the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund ($3 million), the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund ($2 million). An additional $1 million has been contributed by South Gippsland Shire Council.

“The Korumburra Railway Precinct Redevelopment is an exciting project that will help to transform neglected space into community friendly infrastructure. The redevelopment has a number of stages and as one stage is complete, planning for future stages – including identifying potential funding avenues – will occur.
I can’t wait to see the transformation of the Railway Precinct as these works progress.”To view all of Council’s media releases, please visit: www.southgippsland.vic.gov.au/media
