How can we (better) welcome newcomers to Korumburra? - #2

Thank you again for all of the great feedback and input to last week’s news story.

A summary of the feedback and input is:

  • More meet & greets/BBQs/morning teas for newcomers to attend, preferably on a weekend or at night time

  • New resident Welcome Kits to be distributed by real estate agents, Milpara House and some other outlets

  • Improve the knowledge of where the physical noticebaiords are in town and expand their content

  • Hold Volunteer Expos

  • Investigate Welcome Committees at the 3 schools and kindergarten

  • Increase the number of community events held

  • Some improvements to the Korumburra3950.com.au website to make it easier to find ther equired information

Things that we are already doing as a town to welcome new residents and where we need to undertake a little bit more work.

  • The KCDA (who amongst other things, publishes the Burra Flyer in partnership with the Korumburra Secondary College) for many years has put together a New Resident’s Welcome Kit that is distributed by some of the real estate agents, Milpara House and the Myli Library

  • The KCDA is currently improving the availability and contents of the Welcome Kit and the new version will be available by 12 February.

  • The Korumburra Staying Strong - Helping Hands project is holding it’s next Community Forum on Sunday the 24 March at the Korumburra Community Hub. The Forum will include a free BBQ where new residents can receive a welcome pack, meet members of the various community groups based in Korumburra and receive a high level overview of the community groups, things to do and where to get more information. Watch out for more news on the Community Forum next week.

  • The Korumburra Staying Strong - Helping Hands project held a Community Forum iun October of last year that featured a number of community groups who were seeking volunteers and were also able to provide information about their activities. We will look at running another one of these in the middle of this year.

  • A number of Community Groups in Korumburra hold a free monthly Community Meal on the first Friday night of every month - please refer to this event link for further details

  • And the Korumburra Staying Strong - Helping Hands project will follow up on your other suggestions such as how to improve the public noticeboards, number and scale of community events and ongoing improvements to this website.
