Coal Creek Park & Museum - Public meeting

Friends of Coal Creek 2024

Hi to all our Friends of Coal Creek,

By now, you will have been made aware that the South Gippsland Shire Council have put out a Discussion Paper on the future of Coal Creek Community Park and Museum. The discussion paper can be viewed on the South Gippsland Shire Council website https://yoursay.southgippsland.vic.gov.au and is asking all residents, and other interested parties, to put forward their ideas and thoughts as to the future of Coal Creek. Essentially, they have put forward 3 options, but they are open to any other ideas.

The 3 options are 1. Revitalisation, 2. A New Direction and 3. Closure of Coal Creek.

The Friends of Coal Creek (FOCC) will be making a submission to the Council as to the way forward, and at this stage we are gathering input from everyone so that our submission represents the community’s feelings. An open meeting is scheduled for Monday 5th of February commencing at 5.00pm at Coal Creek, so we can pull together the ideas into a cohesive and constructive approach. Everyone is welcome to attend. Submissions need to be lodged by the end of March.

Korumburra and South Gippsland needs Coal Creek to flourish. It is at the gateway to our Shire and one of the main attractions for both residents and visitors. If we do nothing, it will close.

At this stage, Coal Creek needs the support of FOCC, and FOCC needs the support of all of its members, and that of the community. There are currently a number of FOCC members who have not renewed their membership, so, we asking for everyone's ongoing support.

Despite the uncertainty, there is a positive vibe at Coal Creek with the following events planned.

● Summer series of evening entertainment commencing on February 2nd.

● A display of artwork by Rona Green until February 12th.

● The American singer and guitarist Charley Crockett performing a show on February 10th as part of his Australian tour.

● The 50th anniversary of Coal Creek on March 2nd. For this anniversary, an excellent array of day and evening events are being planned.

● Easter Egg hunt at the end of March.

● Southern Lights will return in June.

Aligned with the 50th anniversary, FOCC is staging an art show from Feb. 22nd to March 11th in open and under 18 years age categories. All works must feature Coal Creek, and will be on display at Coal Creek. Works will be available to be purchased. Registration open until Feb. 7th.
