Korumburra Round Table September ‘24 Meeting - per President Terry Waycott

We had an open discussion on the council nominations for upcoming election.

17 nominations for 9 vacancies.
E.g. Coastal Promontory x 5. New Emma McKay, Steve Finlay, Michael Pore
Strzelecki x 5. New John Kennedy, Jim Forbes, Bron Beach
Tarwin Valley x 7. New Brad Snell, Kathleen Murray, Aaron Taylor, Rosemary Cousin, Don Hill

Not standing are Michael Felton, Adrian Darakai, Mohya Davies.

Kate gave a report on the meeting with Bendigo Bank executives. No changes but Bendigo would like more loan business.

Jennie sent me a copy of Milpara Community House Annual Report for 2024 which I tabled. Interesting to note that annual membership of Milpara is $5.50. Did not know this!

Other discussions concerned upcoming Halloween on 31st October at Coal Creek, with Lions Club and FOCC seeking volunteers for the event.

Pleasing to note that the Garlic Festival has a committee following their AGM in September and will take over from what was previously a successful event at Meeniyan.

The festival is planned for Sunday the 9th of March, 2025 (Labor day weekend) at the Korumburra Showgrounds and again the committee will be seeking volunteers to make this festival a standout for Korumburra.

Art Connect are having the opening of the Open Studio Art Trail on Friday 11th October at the Coterie.

I am keen to see an anti graffiti task team established to combat what is an unsightly problem in Korumburra.

Jennie Kerrie reported positive response from some transport companies on the streetscape. General view is it will make the Main Street safer. Looking forward to seeing the completion of these works.

Still waiting on updated street parking signage in Little Commercial Street and signage at the Hub.

Also discussion on an email from Ben Ellis representing the Friends of the Korumburra Botanic Gardens (FOKBP). KRT felt that an open invitation  be extended to FOKP to attend our meetings with an opportunity for them to provide updates on works at the Botanic Gardens.

Confirming that a submission I sent to Council seeking to have works on Bridge Street included in the 2024/2025 budget was successful with Council advising that “Council has included the commencement of design work for Bridge Street into the sealed road rehabilitation program for 2024/25”.

And lastly I will be attending a workshop at Foster on 31st October, organised by Council, to assist with Community Planning presentations.

Thanks,

Terry Waycott
